Description:

This document explains the rights and restrictions of employees working at SnackCo. 

Definitions:

Child Labor - Work that is mentally, physically, socially, or morally dangerous and harmful to children and interferes with their schooling.


Slave Labor - Forced Labor


Prison Labor - Forced labor by a prison or government institution


Young Workers - A worker 16 or 17 years of age


Legal Workers - An individual who is authorized to work in the United States through citizenship, permenant residence, or other work authorization granted by the government. 

Policy:

SnackCo is located in an At-Will employment state. Simply put, this means that the employment will remain in effect as long as both parties, the employee and the employer, want it. However, with this said, SnackCo abides by strict policies to govern when employment should be entered into or terminated. These decisions and situations need to be handled in an ethical manner, with the workers’ rights being fully respected and their well-being always considered. The decisions should be based on professional considerations on the company's behalf rather than personal preferences or opinions. Discrimination is never allowed and will never be tolerated. Discrimination is addressed explicitly in our anti-discrimination policy.

 

Child Labor

Child Labor is defined as work that is mentally, physically, socially, or morally dangerous and harmful to children and interferes with their schooling. Child labor is strictly forbidden at SnackCo. To prevent child labor, there are strict legal restrictions on any worker under the age of 16. To ensure that none of those restrictions are challenged, SnackCo does not hire workers under the age of 16.

 

Young Workers

Young workers would be considered anyone 16-17 years of age. Without job experience, it is very difficult for individuals within this category to have fair and equal opportunities in the job market. SnackCo will give people a chance to break into the job market. Candidates with little previous job experience will not be immediately rejected. Instead, hiring associates will ask about integrity, work ethic, and goals to determine if they can be good employees. Young workers will not be allowed to operate fryers, enter confined spaces, or perform any hazardous labor. Instead, our laborer position could be a good option for workers with limited experience.

 

Legal Workers

SnackCo can only employ workers with work authorization issued by the United States government. This can be in the form of citizenship, permanent residence, or other work authorization granted by the government. Every worker requires I-9 identity documents.

 

Identification

State-issued identification is required before starting employment at SnackCo to verify the age and identity of the worker. A social security card is also required to confirm the legal right to work for tax purposes. A SnackCo employee assigned to handle onboarding may assist the employee in uploading their identification and inspecting the identification document for validity. However, the identification document shall not be kept from the employee at any time.  

 

Slave or forced labor

Slave labor of any kind is not allowed at SnackCo. Slave labor is any work that an employee is forced to perform against their will and employment they cannot leave.

 

Prison Labor

In this definition, prison labor includes labor where a prison or other institution forces the worker to perform work. No prison labor is allowed at SnackCo. This does, however, not include work release programs as long as those are treated the same way as any other employment at SnackCo. Work release programs and halfway houses, as they can be referred to, are significant opportunities for a convicted individual to re-integrate into the community. However, workers are required to receive a competitive wage and equal work hours compared to workers not in such a program.
